Porous Sintered Titanium Filter Elements
High-Purity Porous Sintered Titanium Filter Elements
Porous sintered titanium filter elements are manufactured from high-purity spherical and irregular titanium sponge powders ($\ge 99.6%$ pure Ti). Using advanced 300 MPa cold isostatic pressing (CIP) or precision powder rolling followed by high-temperature solid-state vacuum sintering, the resulting matrix achieves an interconnected, tortuous three-dimensional pore network without any chemical binding agents.
Unlike polymer membrane cartridges or fibrous wound filters, sintered titanium filters offer extreme chemical corrosion resistance, zero media particle shedding, and withstand high operating temperatures up to 300 °C and differential pressures up to 1.0 MPa.

Core Industrial Applications
1. Pharmaceutical Decarbonization & API Filtration
In active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) synthesis, large volumes of powdered activated carbon (PAC) are added for decolorization and impurity adsorption. Sintered titanium cartridge filters serve as the gold standard for separating fine carbon particulates from hot acidic or alkaline mother liquors. They offer zero carbon bleed-through, pass FDA biological compatibility guidelines, and withstand repeated steam-in-place (SIP) sterilization at 121 °C.
2. Hydrogen Energy: PEM Water Electrolyzer Porous Transport Layers (PTL / GDL)
Thin porous titanium sintered sheets (thickness 0.8–2.0 mm with pore diameter 5–15 µm) are critical components for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) water electrolyzers. Serving as the anode Porous Transport Layer (PTL), they ensure uniform distribution of liquid water to the catalyst layer while allowing rapid evacuation of evolved oxygen gas under high cell potentials ($>1.8\text{ V}$) without titanium matrix passivation.
3. High-Purity Gas & Steam Filtration
Used across semiconductor wafer fabrication, food/beverage processing, and petrochemical cracking units for sterile air, nitrogen sparging, and superheated industrial culinary steam filtration.
Cleaning & In-Situ Regeneration Protocol
Sintered titanium elements can be repeatedly regenerated on-site, slashing cartridge replacement overheads by up to 80%:
- Chemical Cleaning for Organic/Biological Fouling: Soak in a 5% sodium hydroxide ($\text{NaOH}$) solution at 60 °C for 30–60 minutes, followed by DI water rinsing.
- Chemical Cleaning for Inorganic Mineral Scale: Soak in a 3%–5% nitric acid ($\text{HNO}_3$) or citric acid solution at room temperature to dissolve metal salts and scale.
- Physical Cleaning: In-line reverse liquid/gas backwashing at 0.4–0.6 MPa, or off-line ultrasonic tank immersion (28–40 kHz) for 20 minutes to dislodge deep-bed particulates.
